Penguatan Pengetahuan dan Keterampilan Menyikat Gigi melalui Edukasi dan Demonstrasi

Abstract


Oral health problems among school-aged children still require practical promotive and preventive efforts in the school setting. This community service program aimed to improve students' oral health knowledge and toothbrushing skills through education and direct demonstration. The program was conducted at Al-Furqon Elementary School, Surabaya, on 19 September 2026 and involved 50 fourth- and fifth-grade students. Activities included partner coordination, a pre-test, interactive education, toothbrushing demonstration using a dental phantom, supervised group toothbrushing, discussion, and post-test with skills observation. The proportion of students in the good knowledge category increased from 64% to 82%. For toothbrushing skills, the good category increased from 0% to 98% after the demonstration. The program showed positive immediate changes in students' knowledge and skills. Periodic reinforcement and teacher involvement are recommended to support the maintenance of appropriate oral health practices.
